Mike got this new cd the other day which I am absolutely In Love With! Most of you know my reticence when it comes to christian music - the words are wonderful, the music itself, however, is not usually my taste. And many of you have helped me by creating mixes of your favorites - and I cherish those mixes, thanks! A couple of months ago I bought a David Crowder Band cd (Illumination) and have been listening to it non-stop since then - totally Love It! Mike bought the remix album, Sushi and Sunset, or Sunset to Sushi, I don't know - but it is so Amazing! It is really creative and complex and causes me to Imagine because the music is so colorful. The songs are almost orchestral in their layers of sound. Its mostly electronic music (which, for my ESM friends, is what they did in the basement by the elevators - remember?) which I've not been exposed to before. I tell ya what, it's extraordinary. And it's so cool the way he takes songs and flips the mood of them on their head - a joyous song becomes so laid-back - and there is such Beauty on this cd. I'm telling you - AMAZING!
On to the small fire. I was cooking dinner last night - taco salad (I know, who catches the kitchen on fire when making salad?!) - and had decided to bake/broil some corn tortillas to make "chips." A couple of factors came into play - I didn't use a timer, I experimented with raising the rack in the over to the top level, I was Annoyed. Then, I start to smell...open the oven door...and out come the Flames! Praise God that Mike was home because I just started panicking - not Doing anything, just panicking. The door is still open, flames are still coming out...Clara is coming closer...Sadie wants to see what's going on. And then...the Smoke Alarms. My sweet and brave husband sticks his hands into that burning oven to pull out the now totally cremated chips, throws them into the sink - still burning, mind you - and manages to get everything under control. I'm running around like an idiot - hiding dogs and babies in bedrooms, opening windows, yelling at the fire alarms. What a way to come home from work, huh?
We went on a mini-vacation to my folks house this weekend. Mike took Friday off to see my Dad sworn in as a CASA volunteer. CASA = Court Appointed Special Advocate. The volunteers go into messed up domestic situations and foster home situations to observe what's going on and report back to the court. These are the people that are looking out for the children in these situations. It tears my heart just thinking about it - but I think my Dad could do really well at it and I'm so proud of him for investing his time and energy into others like this. And, we got a chance to visit with my Aunt and Uncle from Ann Arbor. It was super fun - although my aunt did dialogue with me about the choice I'm making to stay home right now. Honestly, it was fun to talk with someone who really believes in being a career woman about what I'm doing and, actually, managed to further solidify for me the importance of what I'm doing with Clara.
All in all, life goes on - someday we'll get our computer fixed and I'll get some pics and video up. Until then, thanks for reading!

YAY for your Dad for being a CASA. I was a CASA for 3 years when we lived in Oklahoma. It certainly isn't easy, but very rewarding when you know you speak for a child/children which otherwise wouldn't have their own voice in the court system.
Also, don't feel bad about the fire. I caught our kitchen on fire in the apartment here Christmas morning and we had family visiting. Stupid pancakes! I too, was worthless in the emergency situation.
