News on the Job Front...

Hey - I don't post on here all that often these days, but we have some news and Katie thought everyone needed to know. After a year working at the Elgin Symphony Orchestra I have been promoted to Director of Marketing & Public Relations. For the last few weeks I've been serving as the Interim Director after Ashley, our department leader and friend announced she was taking the opportunity to move on to the Virginia Symphony, which is a few times our size, and in the same neighborhood as her husband, who conducts in Richmond, VA.

So, I believe today was my first official day, and I started out my time as Director by being cast into the "USPS Bulk Mail Rates & Procedure pit of..." well you know. So my first day and I'm sorting zip codes after realizing that no, bulk mail is no where near as simple in Chicago land as it was in West Texas, where we had one three digit prefix, and a business mail dept with much less on their plate. But lesson learned, and thankfully I had budgeted for first-class mail, so no harm no foul, and I must say thank God for understanding and
caring General Managers!

Anyway, so my "little reward" for getting the job (I think I technically had seven "interviews," but they all just seemed like friendly conversations) was a LCD Flat Screen TV.

Maybe cable TV will come next... we'll see. The Best Buy guy kinda thought I was a little off when I asked him all about how one would go about hooking up bunny ears to one of these, but hey, I think walking out of the store with one kinda made up for my "what planet is this guy from" questioning.

So, we'll see how the next few weeks/months go. We have our first concert this weekend at Elgin's Fox Fire Fest, and we're in the home stretch of our 3/4 Million dollar subscription campaign. Then in September there's the concert with Leonard Nimoy coming up. And before I know it we'll be head first into the 08-09 season, and well on our way to planning concerts and campaigns well into 2010. We've closed the book on the past year (the 2007-2008 Frisco Season), and just like every year since we've launched this family, we ended this one in a place we had no clue we'd be in when it began. Who knows what the 08-09 Season has in store. It's just amazing knowing God is in control, and he has everything planned out.

For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. - Jeremiah 29:11
